But, it still can be called a PENALTY.

I’ve been reflecting on a conversation I had in a restaurant with a friend from high school. We had not seen each other in 45+ years due to geographic distance, among other things, yet we had texted over the last few years.

We were very good friends and high school football teammates in our previous lives, thus I had my hopes high.

Big and a bit intimidating

Yet, there was always a slight disconnect. We spoke a different language. We went our separate ways during and after college.

Our adult life took us in very different directions.

I went the Corporate America route post-college and he pursued a professional sports career and then a clinical healthcare role.

In the first 40 years of my life, I was shut down emotionally, self-centered, unaware & judgemental. That is who he remembered.

I was a jerk the last time we had seen each other back in the late 70’s.

As we sat down in the restaurant, I decided to start the evening by apologizing to him in a very sincere manner for the way we exited our friendship.

Might have been the wrong move.
