Jimmy Buffett got it right.

I’m a Baby Boomer so I wanted to get a feel for how Gen X & Millennials would view the topic of imperative capabilities for their companies to be successful.

But you ask, what the heck does this have to do with Jimmy Buffett? You will see.

(Thanks to my colleagues who responded to my poll with the question:)

“What is the most important capability a company needs to have to be successful in today’s environment?”

Their answers…

Gen X: Collaboration — Urgency — Adaptability — Profit — Trustworthy — Transparency — Engagement

Millennials: Integrity — Principles — Dedication — Collaboration — Intent — Accountability — Consistency — Resiliency

Very clear answers and in my opinion, more balanced than I would have guessed focused on results and environment(culture).

Moral of the story is there is not one thing, it is both a What? and a How?

Now Jimmy. He was the epitome of a LEADER.

I have been a Jimmy Buffett fan since the mid 1970’s. I mean a FANATIC. And I have been in Corporate America since 1981.
